For the accomplished Namibian singer/song writer Gustav Pickering music is an amazing journey. His can best be described as a fusion of World-Soul Music.
What sets him apart from the rest are the intricate vocal harmonies and rhythmic elements which underpin his compelling story-telling ability.
Gustav's love for music started at a very young age as he grew up to the sounds of Cliffords Richard, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, to name a few international musicians...at the same time he found inspiration through African sounds such as Jackson Kaujueua, Ras Sheehama, Johnny Clegg, Papa Wemba, Salif Keita, Lucky Dube and Jimmy Dlu Dlu.
At the tender age of 16 he first picked up his dad's guitar and he has never looked back since.
In 1999 he together with his brother George produced a few tracks with David Tarren and in 2001 the duo scooped up two awards at The Namibian Music Makers awards for for "I need a Light" and "True Love".
Those wins guaranteed Gustav and his brother George the opportunity to study music in London.
In London the youngster was greatly exposed to the vibrant music scene which helped him to elevate and step up his game.
Here Gustav also recorded "Be Found" with producer Jono Buchanan at Guidhall School of Music & Drama before returning to his native Namibia in 2005.
Back home Gustav and his brother George performed as G3 and recorded amongst others the songs "Olupandu" and "Be Found" which took the Namibian nation by storm.
In 2007 the critically acclaimed song "Olupandu" received the Best Single of the Year award and "Be Found" the award for Best Rock Alternative at the Namibia National Music Awards.
In 2008 Gustav moved back to England, London to pursue his solo career as a singer/ Song writer.
He has a BA(Hons) in Songwriting through the British&Irish Institute of Modern Music(BIMM). He has also met his wife Amanda here, settled down and for now calls England home.
Gustav released his single "Distant Lands" as a solo artist in February 2018 and is now working towards releasing hist first Album this year.
I took a listen to "Distant Lands" and I can guarantee you the man has Greatness in store for his listeners as he delivers soulful ballads coming straight from his heart and soul.
Like wine he only gets better with age..
We are ready Gustav!!!
