Exploring Øvre-Eide Urban Farm

Last Saturday, the 18th of November, we celebrated Latvia's 105th Independence Day.

Being married to Leila, who hails from Latvia, we decided to make it a small family affair with a celebration out at the charming Moxi Hotel.

Nestled next to the waterfront and yacht club in Møhlenpris, Bergen, close to where we live, this young designer hotel which is part of the Marriott chain of hotels, set the perfect backdrop for our evening.

On Sunday, Leila surprised us with an adventure that took us beyond the city hustle to the Øvre-Eide Urban Farm. Just a short bus ride from Bergen's city center, this unique family owned farm sits amidst historical surroundings, providing a delightful escape.

Our morning at Øvre-Eide Farm began with an immersive encounter with various animals that call the farm home – horses, chicken, rabbits, guinea pigs and sheep. Despite the crisp, cold air outdoors on the farm at the base of Mount Fløyen, we eagerly joined a guided tour along with other families and their children.

Our daughter Ondeya enjoyed every minute of the experience, eagerly petting rabbits and feeding sheep. The highlight for her was a horseback ride, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.

For young children a visit to Øvre-Eide Farm offers an enjoyable blend of nature and hands-on activities.

Amidst the picturesque surroundings, we immersed ourselves in the local cuisine at the tour's conclusion. Traditional Norwegian delights such as warm porridge with cinnamon, raisins and hot tea were served, providing a taste of the region's culinary heritage.

Families are not only welcome at Øvre-Eide Farm but are encouraged to explore and engage with the animals. Children, in particular, love the opportunity to roam freely, feeding and petting the farm's friendly residents.

It's a chance to witness a different side of Bergen, away from the typical tourist hotspots, and instead, surrounded by tranquil nature – serene lakes, dense forests, and the crisp freshness of mountain air.

In summary, Øvre-Eide Urban Farm offers a perfect blend of nature, animals, and cultural experiences, making it an ideal destination for families or anyone seeking a unique and memorable day out in Bergen.
