5 Signs you should start a blog during lockdown!

author Nevena Jablanovic - Author at Wired Creativ

Before the days of TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, earning a living through blogging was a dream for many. But with so many new apps taking over it seems like blogging is a thing of the past and we’re constantly getting asked whether it’s still profitable?

And the answer is YES!

Here are a list of reasons why you should look into starting a blog for business, or even just for fun!

You own the content

Social media is constantly changing. Apps aren't going to be around forever, and many have already closed their doors ...(remember Vine?). Having a blog allows you to own your content and share it across all social media channels. You have freedom of speech, and you can say and share whatever you want on your blog!

People will find you on Google

With the constant influx of new information, search engines will love you and your site. The more targeted keywords you’re introducing, the higher the chances are of you ranking on Google - the more eyeballs = the more income.

You’ll instantly become a #boss / industry leader

Whether you’re a travel enthusiast, a chef or a musician, creating a website and providing valuable information immediately thrusts you into the league of experts! Sure there are people that have more experience, but by supplying your audience with information that they may not have had access to otherwise (or they just like your vibe), means that you’re a step ahead in the game and you’re becoming a leader rather than a follower.

Opportunity for partnerships 💰

Having a blog provides more opportunities for you to create collaborations and partnerships with the businesses that fit your niche.

We all know that blogging can be beneficial for your business, however, it’s not the only way to make it a success. So if you can’t fathom the idea of sitting down to write a few articles a week, then perhaps it’s just not for you (unless you’re happy to hire a writer).

Then there are those of you who have perhaps had the idea sitting at the back of your mind for a while. You would love to share your ideas but just have no clue if you’re cut out for the blogger’s life. This article is for you!

We’re here to provide a little assistance... Here are 5 signs that you should probably take the leap and start a blog!

1. You always get asked for advice on a specific topic from your friends, family or customers.

Ding, ding, ding! You’ve got some answers that people want to know! If people are lining up to know how you create that amazing Instagram feed, or what type of oil is the best for you to use when cooking steak, then you’ve got something valuable to share.

2. You love to write and want a place to share it.

Is that all you need? Yes! If you’ve got a passion for writing, get that online! If you create poetry or are already writing tech reviews online for Quora, then perhaps a blog is the perfect place for you to express what you need to say.

3. You would enjoy blogging even if you didn’t make money.

I’m sure you’ve heard that blogging takes a little while to actually generate income and it’s not going to happen overnight. You’ll experience ups and downs and it’s important to remember in those downs that it’s only a matter of time before you begin to see growth. Do it because you love it, or get someone else to.

4. You’re a creative person!

This doesn’t mean that you’re into art, it means that you’re constantly finding new ways to do the things that you’re interested in.

If you’re wanted to start a surfers blog become creative with what you explore such as what to expect from different boards, best surf spots, top new tricks to try. You can get creative as you want to while trying to stick to your niche.

5. You love helping others.

This is a biggie because the best blogs are the ones that provide the most value to their audience. We all want some kind of takeaway.

If you’re a photographer, give them tips on creating the best frame. If you’re a chef, why not create a space where instead of your audience copying your recipes, give them a list of spices that work really well together in dishes to try and come up with their own recipe.

If you’re a car mechanic, create a video on how to easily change your tires or a list of the best tool kit to have in your car for the "just in case" moments.
